THE CAMPAIGN KICKS OFF
JULY 20, 2025
To the Voters of the 258th Judicial District serving Polk, San Jacinto, and Trinity Counties:
As your current District Judge, it is my honor to announce I am seeking re-election.
After graduating from Baylor Law School in 1977, and marrying my wife Susan, we moved to Trinity County in April l978. We have 2 children. I worked as your Assistant District Attorney for Polk, San Jacinto and Trinity Counties until I went into private practice at the end of 1981.
Throughout my forty one plus years of practicing law along with 73 years plus life experience, I have appeared in front of dozens of judges. I have observed how these judges, who were entrusted with dispensing justice, handled their courtrooms – having seen the good, the bad and the ugly practices. I have witnessed the pain, anxiety and the fear of those persons who must come before the courts to seek justice. My experiences in these courtrooms have instilled a principle that I follow as your District Judge – make sure everyone gets their fair and just day in court.
Most citizens only hear about a district judge when there is a high-profile criminal case. In reality, there are many more types of cases heard by a district judge, including family, business, real estate, and civil cases. It is important that your district judge has the legal education, training, experience, and expertise to handle all matters that may come before the court.
My legal education, broad training and experience, along with my life experiences, allow me to serve as a fair and knowledgeable judge.
Our courtrooms are no place for local politics or favoritism, but should be a place for all parties to obtain equal justice and above all, fair and impartial treatment. Each case that comes before the court has its own unique facts, circumstances, and evidence. As your District Judge, I strive to ensure that all parties, whether law enforcement, victims, defendants or private citizens, are given a considerate and impartial evaluation of the facts and evidence along with an appropriate application of the relevant law.
Decisions of judges are not always popular. I believe that if a judge acts fairly, not allowing politics, favoritism, or vengeance to interfere with his decision making, then that judge has acted correctly.
It has truly been an honor serving as your District Judge. I give you my pledge that if reelected, I will continue to ensure that all citizens who come before my court have a court system that treats all participants with respect and common courtesy, and follows the principles of equal and fair justice.
Respectfully yours,
Travis Kitchens
